Obituary

Franklin Samuel Tibbs, affectionately known as Frank to his friends and loved ones, passed away peacefully on February 27, 2026, at the age of 86. Born on May 16, 1939, in Abington, Pennsylvania, Frank grew up to be a pillar of his community, touching the lives of many with his gentle spirit, intelligence, and kindness.

Frank is survived by his devoted wife, Maureen Capuzzi Tibbs, and remembered lovingly by the family of his late first wife, Julia “Judy” Ann (Hill) Tibbs. He was a proud father to Stephanie Tibbs Brown, father-in-law to Marcus Brown, and cherished grandfather to Tyler and Julia Brown. His stepfamily includes Michael Capuzzi and his wife Becky, with their children Caroline and Nicole Capuzzi; Heather Capuzzi Sheridan, her husband Tim, and their daughters Emerie, Ceci, and Molly Sheridan. Frank is also survived by his sister, Marge Luby, and he was predeceased by his brother, Gus Tibbs. His numerous nieces and nephews will miss his warm presence.

Frank's educational journey began at Jenkintown High School and continued as he pursued higher learning at Temple University and Bloomsburg University, culminating in a master's degree from Villanova University. His passion for education led him to a fulfilling career, where he began teaching in Lower Merion before finding his calling in the West Chester Area School District. Frank's dedication to education saw him transition from teaching to administration, where he positively influenced countless students and teachers at Glen Acres, East Bradford Elementary, and Peirce Middle School before retiring in 1999.

Even in retirement, Frank continued to guide young minds by supervising student teachers from West Chester University. His commitment to education and his students was unwavering, and his legacy in the field lives on in the generations he inspired.

A man of deep Christian faith, Frank lived his beliefs through his actions, embodying the principles of compassion, service, and love in every aspect of his life. He found solace and strength in his faith, which guided him through life's challenges and joys.

Frank's love for sports was a defining aspect of his life. His natural talent in baseball led him to be drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates, and he played minor league baseball for a few years while simultaneously embarking on his teaching career. Frank continued to play in adult baseball leagues well into his forties and also enjoyed golf and tennis for many years, showcasing his athleticism and competitive spirit.

Those who knew Frank will remember a man who was always ready to lend a hand or share a word of encouragement. His presence was a comfort, and his influence was profound. As we celebrate the life of Frank Tibbs, we hold onto the memories of a life well-lived, a journey marked by love, dedication, and a gentle grace that will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
